Everywhere interest is growing in so-called “free-hand lace”, that archaic lace which is worked without a pricking.

In the province Skåne (Scania) in the south of Sweden, the tradition of free-hand lacemaking persisted into the 20th century. In her book W.-A. Nordström describes the historical development and technical characteristics of this Scanian lace. An extensive pattern section with coloured working diagrams gives instructions in working 56 traditional patterns – ranging from narrow lace for beginners up to beautiful but complicated patterns for experienced lacemakers.
