An unconventional project by Ulrike Löhr: part one of a loose-leaf collection on the inexhaustible subject "grounds". Not unexpectedly, Ulrike Löhr does not bother herself with normal or simple grounds. Rather she has reworked extremely fine, complicated grounds from old lace which she discovered either in private collections or in museums.

The subject of this first part is "grounds with gimps" and the ones included are mainly from Mechlin lace.

The collection is organized systematically; well-thought-out diagrams and symbols make explanations largely unnecessary. That is a big advantage: once one has understood the system, one can work any of the grounds.

For each ground (here there are 117) there is an illustration, the lace pricking, a b/w working diagram and a grid with the pattern of pin holes. The pages are punched to fit Central European and American lever-arch file systems.
