ALL ABOUT MAKING FLORAL BUCKS POINT LACE
Haywards Heath (GB) 2013, 252 pp., 28×21,5 cm, paperback
Text: English

Alexandra Stillwell wanted originally to write a large textbook about point ground lace. But because of the amount of material involved, it turned into two books: "All about making Geometrical Bucks Point Lace" (appeared in 2006, SKU 077) and now the second volume "All about making Floral Bucks Point Lace”.

This book contains 33 projects, mostly for narrow lace (e.g. for dolls’ clothes) but the contents also include round and oval forms, fans, little motifs for greetings cards and even a whole picture. For each pattern technical details and tricks are explained, or the patterns are used to teach fundamental lessons. Questions such as “Where does one begin and end?”, “How can one design a corner for a piece of lace?” or “How can one create a hexagonal mat based on a pattern for straight lace?” are answered during the course of the book.

As in the first volume, for each pattern there is a lace pricking, attractive illustrations of the finished work and enlargements of details (unfortunately only in black and white) as well as clarifying diagrams and a lot of text. To understand the text, therefore, a good knowledge of English is necessary. Knowledge of Geometrical Bucks Point is also assumed.
